How do you feel when you listen to the ocean? For most people, they say they feel relaxed but are they really? Are there real health benefits of experiencing the ocean? The European Union has brought together 72 researchers of various backgrounds from nine institutions to study what they call "Blue Health." They have a variety of projects looking at the link between the Environment, Climate & Health.

If A 7 yr old Can Do It...

Hi Everyone...

What an AWESOME little boy! Ryan is 7 yrs old and he has been recycling since he was 3 years old. He has earned 25K for college so far and sells t-shirts to help the marine mammals. I take my recycling to Target! They take plastic, glass, plastic bags, cardboard/paper, metal, and cell phone batteries. Just set up some containers and then when you get to Target park by the carts and you just wheel them in! :-) Of course Target does not pay for any of it but if you can't find someplace that pays take it to Target! :-)

Tesla's has created new Solar shingles, which in time are likely to come down in price and now colored solar panels are getting more & more efficient. Currently they are about 10% less efficient than traditional solar panels. We are getting closer & closer to a time where people will not have to be convinced but rather it will just be the norm.

Brits Soaring with Wind

In 2016, Britain had more of its energy produced by Wind than by Coal (Coal 9.2% & Wind 11.5%)! By 2025, Britain plans to have all their Coal Stations closed. They also had a reduction of CO2 of 20% in 2016! The UK has the World's largest WindTurbines and the World's largest Wind Farm floating in the ocean.

Would You Rent Baby Clothes?

Hi Everyone...

Now I know many of you may keep your baby clothes for your future kids and that is great, but what happens to their clothes when they may be the last one to wear them? And what if they are fairly new clothes? Do you give them to relatives? Do you sell in a garage sale? Do you sell in a resale shop? How many new clothes have you bought or has someone else bought your children?

In Copenhagen Vigga & Peter Svensson came up with the idea of renting baby clothes, their company is  called Vigga. Now I'm sure you have heard of those services where you can rent or buy boxes of clothes...like Stitch Fix and others, well this is the idea but for babies. Check out this video and hear Vigga talk about her Sustainable Baby Clothes business.  It is a great idea, as this video states, "globally only 20% of clothing is recycled or reused." The price is pretty awesome too with 16 items costing $55. What do you think, would you rent baby clothes? Do you know of any companies like this in the US?

Last night Dr. Nichols' nightly reading of Blue Mind was read by Alex Weber. Dr. Nichols discussed Alex and her friend Jack's work saving marine life by retrieving the golf balls that have made their way (poor shots!) in the ocean from nearby golf courses. Today an article was published in Golf Magazine on Alex & Jack's Blue Mind work! Check it out, it is quite inspiring...and think what you can do! :-)

Rachel Carson was asking the Environmental questions early on! She also exposed the harmful effects of DDT! A very courageous women, a Hero to the Environment!

Ocean Wilderness Therapy

Dr. Nichols' recent blog entry is on Ocean a Wilderness Therapy program run by Dr. Matthew Claybaugh in Kailua, Hawaii. In Dr. Nichols' interview, Dr. Claybaugh explains how people who go through the Ocean Wilderness Therapy program are "transformed - finding a stronger sense of who they can be." How does being by the Ocean make you feel? :-)

Blue Mind Live Online Book Club Discussion

I wanted to make you aware that Dr. Wallace J. Nichols is starting the Blue Mind Online Live Book Club. Chapter 1 started this past Monday but you can catch up real fast even if you do not or cannot get a book quickly. 

First, Dr. Nichols is reading a few pages each night via Facebook. 8pm CST.
