Florida Says NO to Citrus Pesticide

Hi Everyone...

Florida citrus industry has been hit hard by a disease which is spread by the Asian citrus psyllid insect. Just before President Trump left office he approved a toxic pesticide called Aldicarb made by AgLogic Chemical LLC. The Agriculture Commissioner of Florida is now denying the use stating it, "is one of the world's most toxic pesticides, and is banned in more than 100 countries." The Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association and Florida Citrus Mutual is fighting stated in court it needs this chemical despite the Commissioners concerns of this chemical contaminating ground and surface water which would endanger the environment and those who use the water. Save the Whales!

 Hi Everyone...

This video is from the BBC.

Check out this wonderful piece from the BBC this past Jan.

Each whale is worth 1Tn as far as what it does for our planet in feeding others and carbon sequestering when it dies. The article states it feeds 200 different species when it dies and the plumes of fecal material feeds the Phytoplankton. The Phytoplankton capture 40% of the carbon...4X that of the Amazon Rain Forest! Due to commercial whaling in the past, whales have declined 66-90%!! That added 70M tonnes of carbon dioxide to the planet, though the article says 15M cars to that in 1 day and in the US we hve 235M cars!!! So YES...SAVE THE WHALES!!!

Solastalgia & What to Do About It

Hi Everyone...

This is a very good piece in Discover Magazine on Solastalgia and what we can do about it.

Two good quotes:

"People might feel the grief, but it's not something that has been legitimized in society," Ellis says. Most of Western society lacks rituals to help us mourn nature. There are no monuments for the Amazon forest, no last rites for extinct species. Yet things are changing: In 2019, a community in Iceland came together for a funeral for a melted glacier."

"We need role models for how to talk about our climate worries and how to deal with them. We also need to start discussing these issues openly, admitting our fears without shame. We should do it together, almost like group therapy. So, I'll go first: Hello, my name is Marta, and I have climate anxiety. I'm scared about the future of our planet. I'm grieving."
