WATER Bill Proposed in Flint, MI

Hi Everyone...

Well it took 4 years but Flint Mi politicians just proposed a bill stating clean water is a Right! The bill is called the Water Affordability, Transparency, Equity, and Reliability (Water) Act of 2018. The bill would create almost 1 Million jobs to help strengthen the infrastructure of the aging pipes and sewers. Lets hope it passes & they fund it, it could help the city of Flint in many ways!

Albatross the Film

Dr. Nichols mention Chris Jordan's Albatross film in last night's Livestream session and I wanted to provide you with the link to the trailer and website. Perhaps you can each bring a showing of it to your community. From the trailer..."Do we have the Courage to face the realities of our time, and allow ourselves to feel deeply enough that it transforms us and our future?" O boy...I've seen pictures before but this already had me in tears and it is just the trailer. I'm working on getting it shown at our Green Drinks meeting (Check out your state/city for nearest!) and if not I'll find another way! Tackling Plastic In Our Oceans

Hi Everyone...

It is likely you heard about the Sperm Whale that died last week in Spain with 64 lbs of plastic in him. Reports suggest there is 8 million tons of plastic in the ocean globally each year and more than 51 million microplastics in the oceans that are ingested by marine life. The British government has committed nearly 88 million dollars to help tackle this problem. This money will be used in 3 ways: to fund research on the cause and effects plastic has on marine life, prevention of plastics entering oceans and improving the management of waste. The UK is also put together a Commonwealth Clean Oceans Alliance to continue to work on this problem. The UK has promised to be plastic free by 2042 though some supermakerts are starting to promise to do so by 2023. Now if we could just get some other countries on board! :-)
